I used to watch Disney cartoons all the time, especially if any of them included Mickey Mouse. If you’re looking for a platforming game that is full of charm, fantastic animations and re-imaging of classical Disney themes then Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse is the perfect answer. Instead, this is a full fledged roller-coaster ride that we all used to know and love. It’s not some cheap knock-off that was made by a unknown developer who tried to match the magic of Disney. Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse is full of classical Disney moments as soon as you look at it. Sega did a fantastic job at providing classical sounds, animations and visuals in a Disney-like fashion. The best thing about Castle: of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse is its presentation. At this year’s E3, I managed to get a hands-on demo for Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse at the Sega booth. So how did Sega go about re-making the old classic title to create an experience that is appealing to today’s standards? Well, for one they went back to the original director Emiko Yamamoto who created the game the original Castle of Illusions: Starring Mickey Mouse. Sega has decided to go back in time and re-introduce the platforming game to today’s modern technology on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. As of our last check in February of 2023 the game remained available on Steam, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and mobile devices.C astle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse is the upcoming remake of the original Castle of Illusion game that was released back on Sega Genesis in the early 1990’s. The game was next delisted on Xbox 360 around February of 2019 but was relisted later the same year, by September 8th. The Windows Store version of Castle of Illusion was last confirmed available on April 7th, 2017 and was removed by the next capture on April 14th. Thanks to Delisted reader Gantann for the tip. Neither Sega or Disney appear to have announced the game’s return or given an explanation. On March 30th, 2017 Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse was relisted on Steam and also reappeared on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, presumably around the same date. As further confirmation, the Android, iOS and Windows versions of the game remained available and published directly by Disney. In fact, September 2nd is almost three years to the day after the game’s original release for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. No explanation was publicly stated but given the game’s mediocre reception and Disney properties it was most certainly due to a licensing deal that Sega couldn’t justify renegotiating. The post was later updated with an exact date of Friday, September 2nd and confirmation from Xbox’s Major Nelson that the game had been added to Xbox One backward compatibility. On August 30th, 2016, Game Informer revealed that Sega had confirmed that their 2013 remake of Castle of Illusion would be delisted “by the end of this week”.
